In Chapter 17, the town has a funeral for Tom, Huck and Joe Harper. What they didn't know was that Tom, Huck and Joe were still alive and were watching the funeral take place. Halfway through the funeral the boys walk down the isle. Everyone was in shock and happy to see the boys safe and sound. Everyone went up to Tom and Joe giving them hugs and kisses. No one went to see Huck. Then Tom told his aunt no one was happy to see Huck, so his aunt said, " Well I'm happy to see Huck!" as she ran to him giving him hugs and kisses only making the whole thing even more awkward for Huck.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
We, the students in Miss Weiss' 7th grade Language Arts class, are currently reading the novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Since our class has already studied summarizing, we will be breaking apart the novel, chapter by chapter, and posting summary reflections on our blog. Each student is responsible for reporting on at least one chapter of the book. Tune in to what our class is reading by keeping up with our posts!

Chapter 16
Chapter
16 starts off when Joe realizes that he is starting to get homesick and wants
to leave. Joe suggests leaving and Tom is willing to go with him. Huck refuses
to go and tells the boys he will share his secret if they are willing to stay.
Tom and Joe decide to stay in exchange for Huck teaching them both how to
smoke. After smoking in the afternoon, Tom and Joe feel sick and decide to go
lay down. Their bad luck was not over because that evening it started to storm.
The boys were terrified! The storm carried away their tent. The boys huddles
together under a burnt tree and stay there until morning. They decide that they
need to now be indians and true indians smoke a peace pipe. This time the boys
did not get nearly as sick.
Chapter 15
Tom swims
out a sandbar and hops on board a ferry headed for the Missouri shore. After he
arrives back at shore he creeps home to find Aunt Polly, Sid, Mary and Mrs.
Harper sitting together. From a hidden location under the bed, tom hears
everyone (except Sid) share how much they miss the boys. They wished they had
been kinder to them. Tom learns that the groups of ships found the boys raft
downstream and everyone assumes they have drowned. Tom waits until everyone has
gone to bed and debates on leaving the note for Aunt Polly. He decides against
it and heads back to join his fellow pirates on the island again.
Chapter 14: Happy Camp of Freeboaters
Tom, Huck and Joe Harper awoke to the sound of a muffled boom. It was a cannon. The book states that when people were suspected of drowning in the lake, the vibration of the boom make the dead bodies rise up to the top. "They done that last summer, when Bill Turner got drowned. They shoot a cannon over the water; That makes em come up to the top".

Chapter 13
In
chapter thirteen Huck, Tom and Joe become vagrant pirates. All three of them
run away from home with plans of not returning. When they find a place to live,
which is on an empty island, they camp out under the stars. On their way to the
island they steal food and later that night Tom's conscious tells him stealing
is not right. The boys make a promise not to steal again.
Chapter 12
Tom has
been feeling a bit depressed and upset about all of the recent events. Aunt
Polly takes notice and gives him a number of ineffective remedies since she is
under the impression Tom is sick. Tom decides rather than drink down these
awful concoctions, he should feed the medicine to the cat. The cat in turn
reacts by becoming extremely hyperactive. Aunt Polly catches on and promptly
sends Tom off to school.
Chapter 11
In this
chapter the town's people find Dr. Robinson's body in the grave yard, with
Potter's knife right next right next to the body. Everyone thinks that it is
Potter who killed the doctor. There is a huge group of people by the grave yard
and everyone is blaming Potter, even Injun Joe. Potter is sitting there crying
to the police but they don't believe him. When Potter goes to jail, Tom starts
to sneak items to Muff's jail cell. At the end of the chapter Tom, Sid, and
Aunt Polly are sitting at the table and sid says that Tom has been talking in
his sleep and Aunt Polly got worries that something bad was on his mind.
