Chapter 6: Tom Meets Becky

In chapter six "Tom Meets Becky" of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom tries to convince Aunt Polly that he is sick and can't go to school.   When that failed, he went for Plan B and claimed that his tooth hurt.  Aunt Polly grabs string and ties one end to Tom's tooth and the other end to a bed post and uses the string to yank out Tom's tooth.  Next he was off to school.  On the way he meets up with outlaw Huckleberry Finn, Huck for short.  Huck was holding a dead cat that he planned to take to the cemetery that night.  Tom arrives at school late and was punished.  His punishment was to sit with the girls.  the only problem with that was that the only open seat was next to Becky Thatcher.  During lunch Tom and Becky talked.  Becky said that she did not know how to draw.  Tom said that he would be willing to teach her.  He said that at noon she could come home with him and he would teach her to draw there.  Next, Tom passed her a note that said "I love you" on it.  For the rest of the day Tom could not study because he could not stop thinking about her.

Chapter 5: The Pinch bug and It's Prey

In Chapter 5 titled "The Pinch bug and It's Prey", Tom Sawyer messes around in church.  When everyone was getting into the pews, Aunt Polly walked over to the pew where Sid, Mary and Tom were sitting.  Tom sat as far away from the window as possible because he didn't want to be seduced by the putside summer scenery.  Tom was getting bored and he saw a fly.  He caught the fly and and Aunt Polly said " Don't you do that again Tom!"  So Tom let the fly go.  Tom was getting bored again so he pulled out a percussion-cap box where he had a large black beetle which he called "pinch bug".  The pinch bug bit Tom in the finger and Tom yelped.  Then a dog came into church and the pinch bug bit the dog too!  After church, Mark Twain expresses, "Tom went home quite cheerful, thinking to himself that there was some satisfaction".

Chapter 3: Busy at War and Love

in "Busy at War and Love" in the novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Tom finishes all of his chores and goes along to play with his friend Jeff Harper. When Tom was on his walk home he walks past the Thatcher's house and sees a new girl in the garden. Tom had a girlfriend named Amy Lawrence but when Tom saw this new girl, Amy jumped out of his heart without a trace. Tom thought he was in live with this new mystery girl. While continuing home, Tom's spirits were high and he wondered what Aunt Polly would think of him. At dinner, Sid broke the sugar bowl and Aunt Polly blamed Tom because in the past he would sneak sugar while she wasn't looking. Aunt Polly punishes Tom before he is able to tell her the truth. Tom leaves and dinner and thinks abut how bad Aunt Polly would feel if he were to die today after she punished him for something he didn't even do. Tom also thought about what the new girl would do if she saw him. Tom fell asleep in the new girl's yard during his daydream until the new girl's maid threw water on him and he ran all the way home. When Tom got home he went to bed and did not say his prayers. Tom knew Sid was watching and would tell Aunt Polly in the morning.

Chapter 2 The Glorious Whitewasher

As Mark Twain says in "The Glorious Whitewasher", Saturday morning was bright, fresh and brimming with life. Tom Sawyer was stuck whitewashing the fence for playing hooky. He tried to convince Jim, the negro boy to do it, instead of going to get fresh water. After Jim said no, tom gave up and started whitewashing. Then he saw Ben and made it seem fun to whitewash. So Ben was willing to trade his apple to Tom so he could whitewash. Finally, "Tom gave up the brush with reluctance in his face, but alacrity in his heart." as stated in the novel. As the retired artis sat on a barrel in the shade close by, munching on his apple and planning the slaughter of more innocents. Everything went how he planned and by the end of the three coats of paint he had a collection of materials. Tom is a very wise kid.

Chapter 2: The Glorious Whitewasher

In Chapter Two of Mark Twain's novel "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" Tom has to whitewash (paint) a fence because he got into trouble. As Tom paints the fence, Jim comes along and Tom tries to get him to whitewash for him. One statement from Tom is "Say, JIm. I'll fetch the water if you whitewash some." Jim turned down the offer. After Tom's plan was rejected he started thinking of all the plans he had made for the day that were ruined. Then, a little boy named Ben came by and started making fun of Tom for "working". Tom made Ben think that whitewashing was something special and Ben then wanted to whitewash too! Ben wanted to whitewash so bad he even gave Tom his whole apple so Tom gave him the brush. Lastly, Tom became "rich" with all kinds of things from the boys who thought they were special for being able to whitewash the fence and taking care of Tom's punishment for him. That is what happened in Chapter Two of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer".
